(Pictured: Mr. Brent Mitchell; Isaac Gates; Dr. Joycelyn Pugh-Walker)
Isaac Gates, a junior at STEAM Academy @ MSB, has been selected to represent the student body on the Board of Education, fostering student participation.
The Board of Education, recognizing the value of student input, enacted a policy last year allowing a student to serve as a non-voting member of the Board.
As part of the selection process, interested candidates submitted an essay detailing the importance of student leadership. Four finalists emerged from a pool of applicants, representing McCluer, McCluer North, Innovation, and STEAM High.

The final phase of the selection process involved the four finalists responding to video interview questions.
The voting process included an equal number of students from each of the four high schools and each of the three middle schools in the District. The voting students are active members of the FFSD Student Voice Committee. Gates received the most votes and was selected as the student representative.
He will be sworn in during the January 22 board meeting, officially commencing his one-year term.
