School Social Work Services

  • School social workers serve as the link between students, families, and the school. They work with parents, guardians, teachers, and other school officials to eliminate barriers children may have to learning and attempt to ensure that students reach their academic and personal potential. They also assist students in dealing with stress or emotional problems. School social workers address problems such as misbehavior, truancy, and economic hardship and advise teachers on how to cope with difficult students while providing parents with resources.

    Apply for a Free Chromebook

    St. Louis County Library has received funding from the Emergency Connectivity Fund (ECF) to provide 1,000 internet connected Chromebooks to eligible residents. The devices come preloaded with unlimited data through June 30, 2024. 

    Any resident in the St. Louis County Library District is eligible to apply, particularly those who lack the equipment and services to access the internet. Applications will be accepted September 19 through October 1, 2023. 

    All applicants will be notified by October 6, 2023. Those individuals awarded a device will be able to pick up the Chromebook at the branch designated on their application. The Chromebooks do not need to be returned to the Library, recipients can keep the device to use indefinitely, however internet access will end on June 30, 2024.

    Close the Gap Grant Program

    The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) is pleased to announce the new Close the Gap Grant program. This program provides a one-time grant of up to $1,500 for K-12 public school district and charter school students to use towards allowable educational expenses.
     
    Allowable education expenses include:
    *Tutoring
    *Computer equipment
    *Internet connectivity
    *Before- and after-school educational programs
    *Instructional resource material
    *Course fees and textbooks
    *Online access for an academic app or subscription
    *Education, learning, study skills services
    *Academic day or summer camps
    *Arts-related day or summer camps
    *Art enrichment
    To be eligible for the grant, students must meet the following criteria:
    *Must be a Missouri resident
    *Student is currently enrolled in K-12 in a Missouri public school district or charter school
