Ferguson-Florissant Makes Continued Improvements in Academics
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has released the 2024 assessment results for school districts across the state, and we are excited to report progress in the Ferguson-Florissant School District. The district earned 146 points on the state’s annual assessment, or 73.0%. We are #FergFlorProud of the growth our students have shown in Math and English Language Arts. This represents a 3.6-point increase in our overall district performance score. Ferguson-Florissant is moving upward as the second-highest-performing district in the North/Northwest County area.
Students have shown improvement across multiple subjects and grade levels, reflecting their dedication and determination. Additionally, our four-year graduation rate remains impressive at 92.3%, continuing a six-year streak of surpassing 90%, which is above the state average.
“I’m incredibly proud of the dedication and hard work of our teachers and instructional leaders in helping our students achieve remarkable growth,” said Superintendent Dr. Joseph Davis. “By investing in our teachers, particularly through initiatives like the graduate-level certification program in elementary math in partnership with DESE and the University of Central Missouri, we’ve seen a direct positive impact on student performance.”
More than 60 elementary teachers have earned or are working toward this advanced math certification. The District’s focus on supporting teachers around content is yielding gains in math achievement and student growth. “When we empower our educators, our students thrive,” said Davis.
This growth is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our teachers, students, and staff, who are driving this positive momentum. While there is still more work ahead, our steady progress demonstrates that we are moving in the right direction.
Annual Performance Reports, published by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, provide data on the individual performance of local education agencies. The APR score is based on the standards and indicators in the Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP). APR scores are used by the Missouri State Board of Education to determine accreditation status. Ferguson-Florissant is fully accredited.
Ferguson-Florissant had APR scores of 66.0 percent in 2022, 69.4 percent in 2023, and 73.0 percent in 2024.
A Different Way to Measure Accountability
While Ferguson-Florissant staff have made great strides in improving their MAP and APR scores, the district is looking ahead to better ways to measure student success. Ferguson-Florissant is part of a group of over 70+ Missouri districts called the Success-Ready Students Network, working to create even more effective ways to track student progress.
This new approach, approved by the State Board of Education, goes beyond standardized tests. It focuses on personalized learning and real-world experiences that prepare students for success in high school, college, careers, and the workplace.
